Company Overview
Aleph Alpha researches, develops and deploys sovereign, explainable AI. At the heart of our offering is PhariaAI – a modular AI suite that empowers enterprises and governments to build, customize, and operate their own AI infrastructure to maintain critical digital sovereignty. Its infrastructure team focuses on delivering scalable, reliable, and secure cloud infrastructure through a high degree of automation, enabling a small team to operate efficiently. GitOps is the default operational model across the organization, ensuring consistent and transparent changes across all deployments.
How Aleph Alpha uses Akuity
Aleph Alpha uses the Akuity Platform to manage deployments for PhariaAssistant through a GitOps workflow. Using Akuity and Argo CD controllers, the team deploys services and infrastructure components across multiple Kubernetes clusters from a centralized control plane, providing unified visibility and reliable automation while keeping environments isolated. Every change lives in Git, is automatically synchronized, and remains fully traceable, helping developers and operators keep environments consistent.
The Challenge
Time-intensive onboarding
Before adopting Akuity, Aleph Alpha self-hosted open-source Argo CD, maintaining all components, scaling, and security internally. The approach worked early on, around fifteen environments, but as demand grew, so did operational strain. Manual upgrades, configuration tuning, and patching consumed valuable time; rapid growth introduced reliability risks; and Argo CD instability at times slowed CI/CD pipelines, impacting developer productivity.
“Scaling from a few dozen to hundreds of environments exposed the limits of maintaining Argo CD manually. The operational overhead became unsustainable.” - Infrastructure Lead, Aleph Alpha
For a small infrastructure team, the burden of self-managing Argo CD at scale was unsustainable. They needed a way to continue expanding PhariaAssistant without increasing maintenance work or compromising security.
The Solution
Aleph Alpha adopted the Akuity Platform, a managed Argo CD service that eliminates the operational complexity of hosting, upgrading, and securing their GitOps control plane. This allowed the team to focus on delivering PhariaAssistant minimizing the burden of maintaining deployment tooling.
Akuity’s separation of control and data planes provided a major advantage: a single, centrally managed Argo CD instance can now deploy to multiple Kubernetes clusters, giving the team flexibility and scalability without re-architecting.
Built-in IAM policies, CVE monitoring, and a real-time dashboard strengthened security and visibility. Routine maintenance tasks, such as upgrades, patching, and scaling, are handled automatically.
“Akuity’s architecture aligned perfectly with our goals for scaling PhariaAssistant. It provides performance, security, and reliability out of the box.” — Infrastructure Lead, Aleph Alpha.
The team also plans to adopt Kargo, Akuity’s progressive delivery tool, to enable phased rollouts and safer, independent releases across tenants.
The Results
The impact was immediate. From day one, Aleph Alpha used Akuity to deploy more than 400 applications across 11 Kubernetes clusters, supporting both infrastructure and PhariaAssistant services.
Automation has transformed operations: hundreds of deployments now run daily, and maintenance tasks that once took hours each week are performed automatically, saving tens of hours monthly.
Developers have become more self-sufficient, monitoring and managing their own service states directly in Akuity’s dashboard, which provides real-time visibility into application metrics, CVEs, and IAM controls.
From Self-Hosted Argo CD to Managed GitOps at Scale
By moving from self-hosted Argo CD to the Akuity Platform, Aleph Alpha simplified operations and built a scalable, secure foundation for its multi-tenant SaaS product. The team now deploys hundreds of applications across clusters with unified visibility, automated operations, and a clear path toward progressive delivery with Kargo.
